About Us
Custom drapery, shades, blinds, and shutters for Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Northern Virginia. A sister practice to Paul Baldwin Studio.
Custom Window Treatments — Washington, D.C.
Drapery, shades, blinds, and shutters made to measure — fabrics sourced from Como to Jaipur, built for rooms across the DMV. Fifteen years, one specialty, zero off-the-shelf.
“A well-designed room deserves a well-dressed window.” — Paul Baldwin, Founder
Our Approach
Couvrant began with a simple observation: interior designers treated window coverings as an afterthought, and window companies treated design as someone else's job. Neither served the room.
We work the other way — as designers first, fabricators second, with an eye trained on Milan, Marrakech, and Mumbai as much as McLean. Every piece is drawn, sourced, and built for one window, in one house, with no substitute.
By Appointment Only.

How a Project Unfolds
Every project moves through the same sequence — the order is the point.
An in-home walk-through to understand how you actually live.
Fabric, hardware, and construction specified to the window — not pulled from a catalog page.
Built by hand, to measure, with workroom partners on three continents.
Trusted installation specialists. Precision hanging. Every detail considered.
Warranty support and adjustments, for as long as you own the window.
What We Work In
A well-traveled vocabulary of fabrics and finishes we return to, project after project.

Founder & Designer
Over a decade ago, Paul noticed a gap most interior designers stepped around: nobody treated window coverings as a design problem worth solving properly. He's spent every year since closing it — building Couvrant into a boutique practice trusted with the city's more particular rooms, with an aesthetic shaped as much by Saint-Tropez and Paris as by Washington.
He works alongside a small team of designers, artisans, and installers, and personally reviews every specification before it goes to the workroom. When he's not on a job site, he's usually wandering an architectural salvage yard or stealing ideas from old European hotels.
“I don't sell blinds. I edit rooms.”
