The 3 Types of Window Treatments

Hard window treatments

Made of hard materials, like wood or vinyl. Shades, blinds, and shutters are good examples of hard window coverings.

Soft window treatments

You guessed it, soft window coverings are anything made of soft materials, like cotton or linen. Curtains, drapes, and sheers fall into this category.

Layered window treatments

A combination of both hard and soft window treatments is called a layered window covering. It can be challenging to achieve a layered treatment, but soft treatments over hard coverings can give you a lot of options

Types of Hard Window Treatment

Window Shutters

Shutters are made of wood or plastic and are attached with hinges so you can open or shut them entirely. They can be very strong and protect against weather or unwanted intrusion.

Woven Wood Shades

Wood shades are becoming more and more popular because of their natural colors and complex textures. Woven wood shades are a particular kind of wood shade made of bamboo or grasses. They add a textured and casual look to a room.

Venetian Blinds

These blinds are the most popular and well-known type of window covering. They are made of wood, metal, or plastic and suspended by stripe of cloth or cords. The slats can be rotated to let in light or closed to shade a room. You can find venetian blinds in a variety of colors, lengths, and widths.

Vertical Blinds

Vertical blinds are a good choice for sliding glass doors, since you can easily slide them over when you open your window. They also collect less dust because they hang vertically instead of horizontally. These blinds can be made from flat plastic, fabric, wood, metal, and, sometimes, S-curved blinds. Vertical blinds can also be used when you need to divide a large space into smaller, private areas.

Types of Soft Window Treatments

Roman Shades

Roman shades is a kind of fabric shade that hangs flat when closed but folds horizontally into pleats when raised. With this window covering, you get the warmth of a soft treatment while still enjoying an easy pull-cord rise.

Roller Shades

These shades are a modern way to add color and texture to your room. They’re simple and easy to use and great for covering large windows.

Curtains

Drapery can be used in many, many different ways to create a variety of different looks and moods. You can choose and elegant floor length curtain or a half curtain in a bright print for a kitchen window. They come in any shape, material, color or pattern you can think of.

Austrain Shades

The austian shade is the most dramatic, luxurious soft window covering. The fabric is gathered in scallops and comes in a variety of materials. We suggest deep rose or rich gold.
